add-on to BLOG 2-PROMPT 1

Something that I was reading over and forgot to add to my first blog focused on what the school or classroom respected. This school has three major rules/ expectations: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. These values are taught for the first few weeks of school. Faculty and staff model, practice, monitor and reward these positive behaviors with paper feathers. There is a school store that the students can purchase things from with their feathers. As they show respectful behaviors, such as raising their hand, not talking while other people are talking, giving their peers a chance to participate and answer a question; or responsible behavior like helping to clean up, volunteering to help a friend when needed, following directions; or safety, sitting properly in a chair, walking rather than running in the hallway, no "horseplay," etc. the students receive these feathers that they use as "school money." On the cover of the school handbook it quotes, "'Flynn Falcons,' Soar to Success with Respect, Responsibility, and Safety." The children I work with and observe never have a problem following these values.

  1. I think that is a great idea in a school environment. I think it really helps children to continue or want to follow the rules because they are able to receive an award for it. I think rewards for children are very helpful with them learning on how to act. I also think if children know they will receive something good they are more willing to behave and they will learn to behave throughout the years and they will see that behaving and getting rewards are more satisfying then misbehaving and getting in trouble. I never really thought about having this in my classroom, but I will definitely remember this and I would love to apply this when I am a teacher.
